Today’s Top Stories

Sometimes the news is so surreal—I don’t know how else to describe it. It feels fictional to hear headlines like “Senate Seems on Verge of Meltdown” and “Testing Toys for Lead” or read blubs like “[…] dangerous goods showing up in retail outlets are extension chords, Christmas tree lights, surge protectors, smoke alarms, and auto parts” (NPR). It’s not really the stories that surprise me because no kidding, the world’s fucked up. But it’s the way we’re teetering on edge of so many dystopian story lines—it feels extra fictional.

Some works of fiction I constantly think about lately:

War, Cannibalism & Population The Wanting Seed (Anthony Burgess)
Terrorism & Sloganism Brazil (Terry Gilliam)
Post-War Cannibalism Delicatessen (Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro)
